Another famous essay Emerson wrote entitled "Self-Reliance" discusses how to become self-reliant and how to put your heart into something you care about to give it value.
"But God will not have his work made manifest by cowards."
In other words, if we don't give our all and put our hearts towards God and our work how can we be confident and trust ourselves?
"Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string."
Emerson believed in the importance of individuality and to not conform to what society wants you to do but what is best for you, your mind and your heart let you trust yourself and give the ability to become more self reliant and to trust your own instincts and not to worry about what the world thinks of your choices. At the conclusion of the essay he discusses famous philosophers and religious icons and states that even though they were often misunderstood but to be misunderstood is to be great and greatness is what we strive to achieve.
